Welcome to Cougar Ridge!
31st-Dec-2015 10:47 am - Old map, links to entries
Cougar Ridge, the Game, has moved to it's own community at [info]cougarridgegame!.

NOTE - Some of the writing in this game contains scenes of a graphically violent and sexual nature, as well as copious references to small yellow fruits. If you're under 18 or offended by such things please don't read any further.

Introduce Yourself!

Once you've created your character, complete with avatar picture, reply to this post by clicking on 'Post Comment' below and have your character introduce him or herself.

Don't feel the need to go into too much detail; for now, just your name, age, occupation, the street where you live (see map above) and how long you've lived in Cougar Ridge is fine. You can add more if you want, or feel free not to disclose any of the above information if you'd prefer to keep all your cards hidden for now. Whatever you want. Just one reply per character, though - your quota of five comments per entry starts with the main game on Monday. This post is just for basic introductions, not interaction.

28th-Dec-2015 12:00 am - ATTENTION ALL PLAYERS

Good morning Cougar Ridge!

**NOTE: Please read previous "Attention All Players" post before this one. Thank you. **

ONLY post a reply here if you have a Non-Player Character (NPC) in your character's life who you'd be happy to become a Player Character in someone else's control. List their name (if you have a preference), age (rough or exact) and status (relationship to your character, occupation, any absolutely key details of history or personality). If you don't list these details then they're fair game for whoever takes up the character (so if you don't want your character to have a husband or wife 50 years older than you, for example, make sure you state their preferred age!).

Other players should NOT reply to any character postings on this thread, staking claim to characters or otherwise. If you wish to play a character listed here then simply create an LJ Character Account for them as normal and post to the Introduce Yourself section, at which point that character is off the table. It's first come, first served. If two players create accounts for the same character simultaneously then the first will be accepted and the other deleted (sorry).

Any character's relevant NPCs who aren't listed here are automatically OFF-LIMITS.
** VERY IMPORTANT, CONCERNING THE FUTURE OF THE GAME. PLEASE READ. **

How to Write a [info]cougarridgegame Weekly Entry

1. Start thinking about the next week's entry as soon as you post the current week's. Better yet, start thinking two weeks in advance, because then maybe you can get a continuing storyline going.

2. Pay attention to what's happening in the game, so you can use things that seem important to the characters.

3. Keep in mind what characters you've specifically named in recent entries, so you can spread the pimpage around.

4. Saturday is the best day to write the entry. That gives you an entire day to relax, although you might need to change a few things given what happens in-game before you post. Don't actually write it on Saturday. That would be too predictable.

5. Sunday, realize that you don't have a clue what you're going to post for the entry. Try to piece together a few things that are basically saying, "We're doing the same thing as last week" without making it too obvious that's what you're saying. Also try to throw in some jokes. Wonder if the Brits in the crowd will get them, then decide it doesn't matter. Their senses of humor are probably stunted anyway. Add in some prompts that will be completely ignored, even by your own characters. Be thankful you have the movie schedule to fill it out and make it look longer.

6. On alternate weeks (or more often, if you're feeling espeically lazy), about an hour before posting time, panic, and tell Your Good Spouse that you don't want to post the crap you've written, and you don't know what to do. Your Good Spouse will take pity on you, again, and write up a few suggestions for storylines. Rewrite them so no one will realize the change in voice, and don't give Your Good Spouse credit.

7. Start thinking about the next week's entry . . .
How to get ahead in advertising. At least, I hope it is.

If you are interested in advertising [info]cougarridgegame, feel free to use these banners, or the ads below. The HTML for using the banners is under each one. Just copy and paste! The HTML for the banners and the ad copy is set for use on LiveJournal, so you will need to make a few adjustments if you advertise elsewhere. Please let me know if you do put ads anywhere other than your own journal.

There are two parts to the ads, the copy and the fine print (which isn't really fine). Please use both, and add a banner if you'd like!
